If your computer feels slow or your browser takes a lot of time to load Webpages, then you’re surely in a mess. You have to rid yourself of this situation and speed up computer. We assume that you already have read the following article (the current article is just an extension of that). If you have gone through that and acted accordingly, then it’s time to go ahead and take some advanced actions.
We assume that you’re done with the preliminaries as depicted in the above article. Now if you still feel that your computer is slow (not fast enough), then may be you should setup your windows (or other operating system that you use) again. This will freshen up your computer and you will be able to start over with all new agility and enthusiasm. After the setup when you start your PC for the very first time, you need to press ‘windows’ key + R and open the ‘Run’ program. Type there ‘services.msc’, press the ‘OK’ button. You will get to see the ongoing ‘services’. Some of these services are windows’ default services. But there are some others which we can disable. If we do that, it won’t be such a big deal.
The first service that you should disable to speed up computer is ‘Superfetch’. Find it on the list and then double-click on it. The ‘Superfetch properties’ will open. First click on the ‘Stop’ button. Now find the ‘Startup type’ and change it from ‘Automatic’ to ‘Disabled’, click on ‘Apply’ and then on ‘OK’.
Now another trick to speed up computer, it’s for those who don’t go for automatic ‘Windows updates’. You surely might be one of them, may be you already have turned this feature off. But this still runs in the ‘services’ section (in the background), as you’ll get to see. Find ‘Windows update’ on services and then turn it off. First click on the ‘Stop’ button (unless already stopped). Now find the ‘Startup type’ and change it from ‘Automatic’ to ‘Disabled’, click on ‘Apply’ and then on ‘OK’. If you plan to update your windows later, don’t just worry yet; because you’ll be able to do that manually.
Now that you have stopped these two services, you definitely have advanced a lot when it comes to speed up computer. But this is not it. You should adopt another trick to optimize your computer speed. Go to your ‘My computer’ icon and then right-click on it, select ‘properties’ and then click on ‘Advanced system settings’. Now click on the ‘Advanced’ tab (unless you’re already there) and then in the ‘performance’ section click on ‘settings’. Go to ‘Advanced’ tab again. There in the ‘Virtual memory’ section click on ‘Change’. Uncheck the ‘Automatically…’ box. Remember that virtual memory plays an important role to speed up computer. Have you ever experienced in the ‘Task manager’ the ‘Disk full’ problem? We are doing this trick to overcome this one.
Since your windows is installed on C: drive, you will select it. If windows is installed in some other disk, you’ll have to select that (in most cases it is automatically selected). Now click on the ‘Custom size’ radio button and in the ‘initial size’ blank space put the value of your ram (in GB) multiplied by 1024. For example, if your computer RAM is 2 GB, then in the ‘initial size’ put 2048 and in the ‘maximum size’ put the double value as before, like 4096. Now press ‘set’ and then ‘OK’ three times. Before hitting the ‘OK’ button see if there is an option to press any ‘Apply’ button. If there is, then simply click on it.
This is it. You have taken some great measures to speed up computer. Best of luck with your computer speed and offline/online activities.
